The Listening Project

B&G LLP is one of five agencies commissioned by A New Direction, the Arts Council’s Bridge Organisation for cultural education in London, to conduct a month of roundtable conversations and interviews to learn from those who have been working with young people during the pandemic.

The Listening Project is your opportunity to help reshape cultural and creative policy and practice for young people in London from early years to young adulthood in response to the health crisis. The focus of our enquiry is on individuals and organisations supporting creative practice with young people. Ours is part of a series of 4 other themed conversations in the Listening Projects. You can find out more about the others below.

We know that children and young people are one of the groups that have been disproportionately affected by the crisis.  We want to know what the impact has been on those you have worked with, how you’ve responded and how your practice has changed as a result.   How far do you think these changes are permanent and what do you think the future holds for young people and your work with them?

To address these questions, we will be conducting 2 roundtable conversations and a series of individual interviews in February with people from a broad range of cultural backgrounds, art forms and areas of the city who work with young people, from early years to young adulthood. This is your opportunity to connect with and learn from others working in similar fields, share new ideas for how young people can be supported out of the crisis and to imagine ways forward for them which A New Direction could support and enable through its future plans.

If you’re interested in being a roundtable participant or being interviewed, please go to this link to complete this short online survey ASAP. Please sign up directly for one roundtable conversation using these Eventbrite links.

Roundtable 2: Weds 17th February 10-12.30pm

Roundtable 3: Friday 26th February 10-12.30pm

Individual interviews will be conducted in person or via email between now and 1st March.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us at info@bandgpartners.com

We are particularly keen to hear from those people working with young people outside established organisations, art forms or networks and those working with young people of colour, LGBTQ, disabled, and other marginalised groups.

In March, we will report back to A New Direction on these conversations to help it to decide how to prioritise its work in the future in response.

B&G LLP is a partnership between Ben Payne and Gerald Richards (link). Through coaching, consultation, training and facilitation we help organisations and people be more creative, confident and tell a better story about what they do.

A New Direction is a London-based non-profit, generating opportunities for children and young people to unlock their creativity. In January 2021, in a rapidly changing context, A New Direction commissioned five partner organisations to work with them to listen to the concerns and experience of young Londoners as well as organisations within the rich ecology that supports young people, creativity and culture in the city. This work is called the Listening Projects, and outcomes will feed into AND’s future planning and activity. The Listening Projects cover five themes: the experience of young Londoners, supporting those leading practice, the Earth emergency, enabling cultural communities, and employment and work. Outcomes from the consultations will be published in early summer 2021.

You may be approached to contribute to more than one Listening Project and you are welcome to do so or, alternatively, to respond to a particular strand that feel most relevant to you. To do so, please follow the links below or contact us directly via info@bandgpartners.com and we will put you in touch with right person.
